Peer support in Kladno
Who is a peer?
I offer peer support in Kladno through individual consultations based on listening and sharing experiences. My name is Petr Babinec, and I am on my own journey of recovery.
A peer is, first and foremost, a person. A unique person… just like each of us. Someone who has hit rock bottom. Someone who accepted help and survived. Someone who found a treasure at rock bottom. Someone with the courage and willingness to share that treasure. Someone who shares their own story honestly, knowing it may help others. Others who are still trying to find their way at rock bottom.
A peer is not necessarily a professional — a psychiatrist, addiction specialist, sexologist or therapist (although they may be one) — whether their experience involves mental or physical illness, addiction, or being different in any imaginable way. But their lived experience and self-reflection can help them better understand what you are going through. And offer hope. Because sharing our experiences can be healing.
A peer’s greatest treasure is their unique personal experience. A story of hope and recovery. Hope for a story with a happy ending.
Peers have proved to be valuable members of wider therapeutic teams. Clients know there is someone on the team “who knows what it is like to be a client”. Peers also help doctors and therapists understand how clients feel and what they are going through.
Some peers work independently, offering individual consultations. That is the kind of peer I am.
What I can offer you
I offer individual consultations — a chance to talk and share. Along with that, I also offer
- a safe and welcoming space for sharing our experiences
- respect and understanding without judgement
- listening and support
- a willingness to share my experiences honestly — of paralysing shame about myself, high-functioning depression, different forms of addiction, repeated burnout and the journey of recovery I am currently on
- my own experience of individual, couples and group therapy, a psychosomatic day treatment programme, meditation, tai chi, rock climbing, men’s circles, a vision quest… in fact, everything you can find on the Inspiration page
- help with finding your inner motivation
- coffee or tea… 🙂
Self-worth, self-confidence and room for your experiences
We can talk about self-worth, self-confidence, shame or feeling alone with what you are going through. There is also room to share how depression, anxiety or panic have affected your life.
In a peer support consultation, we can explore what you are experiencing, what matters to you and what support you are looking for. I offer listening and the sharing of my own experience of recovery.
Would you like to get to know me before we meet? Read more about me or explore the people and places that inspire me.
What I do not offer
- Therapy or coaching
- Consultations for clients in an acute phase of mental illness — I am in recovery myself and do not have the support of a therapeutic team
